Forgotten Song

  • Dec. 12th, 2008 at 2:43 PM

Just restrung my guitar for the first time in at least a year - I've barely touched it in months. Now it sounds half-decent again (at least until I start to play it, at which point it sounds like someone is playing a guitar with his feet). And, since it's at least in tune, I'm strumming through my file of songs. Here's one I'd forgotten all about; I have a tune for it, but you can probaby just put it to any old stock country tune:

COUNTRY GOTH BLUES:

I thought my life was bad but now I’ve really hit the skids
I had a punk rock girl friend, and this is what she did
I told her she depressed me
and then she up and left me
I tell ya – Life ain’t easy for a country gothic kid
CHORUS: Life ain’t easy…no life ain’t easy…life ain’t easy for a country gothic kid

I’ve still got my southern drawl, but I’m changing gradually
pretty soon I’ll sound just like ol’ Bela Lugosi
when my friends come round here
they laugh and call me queer
oh ho gloom, despair, and agony on me
CHORUS

I’m the only one at the square dance with black eyeliner on
Unless that one old lady they call Mrs. Mandlebaum
And yet she seems to be
the only one who’ll dance with me
But by the time I get the nerve to ask her, she'll probably be gone
CHORUS

I walked out to the train tracks, along the dusty trail
Feeling just as bad as when my mama went to jail
And I really hoped the rain
could wash away my pain
But in the end I felt even worse than when old ma made bail
CHORUS

This black cowboy hat cost me near a hundred bucks
But I’ve broke ever since I bought that jet black pickup truck
And my old friends were mean
when they first saw my black jeans
So I’m lonely all the time, and I’m sure you don’t give a dang
CHORUS

Now Playing!

Trailer B, a two minute preview of the upcoming live album!

Still busily mixing and fixing, but I'm pleased enough with where certain songs stand now to put another preview up. This is really going to be the "definitive" Adam Selzer and his Revolving Door All-Stars album. It finally strings together all of the songs that sort of exist in the same universe, updates old hits in need of an update, and improves on songs that I wish had sounded better on the album. It may be the last one for a while, too. After this, my only solid musical plans are for The Back Row Hooligans.
